The Hop Pickers at Brook Farm
Brook Farm's new project. As far as we can tell, the building used to be a Hop Picker Barracks, 'catering' to exhausted folk after a day gathering hops. Hasn't done that for some time - indeed the buildings major function has been as a 1960's tobacco drying area, and latterly, somewhere to keep old records dry.
No longer.
Planning permitting, it will become a rather stylish abode for two: an open plan kitchen with rocking chairs and a table next to a wood burning stove on the ground floor; bedroom, bathroom and snug on the first floor - open to the (much insulated) eaves. If you want to sit and have a coffee outside, there's the new crab apple orchard just across the drive, or the Hop Pickers terrace backing onto the Listed wood frame barn attached to the building (where the lean to in the picture currently is). The Hop Pickers will be available for self-catering breaks.
Fingers crossed, The Hop Pickers will be open in 2010. We are taking bookings for 2011, but if you fancy an autumn break, then contact us and see how Plan A is progressing.
A nice little place in the country
